The Corporation of the City of London and the London Livery Companies received instruction from James 1 to settle or “plant” Ulster with English and Scottish Protestants in the early seventeenth century.
Coleraine was one of the two urban communities developed by the London Companies in the Plantation of Ulster (the other community being that of Derry~Londonderry).
